Hoover Dam
Tour Information
Hoover Dam Tour - Basic Tour or Hard Hat
The Basic tour, will take you down inside the dam and its power plant area,
after which you will be able to freely explore the dam and its exhibits area
(Topside).
The well-known Hard Hat Tour, (Highly Recommended), spends less time
topside and more time in the interior. You will experience the enormous inner
workings of the dam up close -- generator shafts, needle valves, seepage gallery
and other "Behind-the-Scene" areas. You will stand next to the
powerhouse generators. Hear and feel them producing 16,500 volts of electricity!
Visit the shaft gallery one level below the generators, and see the huge steel
shafts which connect the generators to the water turbines. Watch them rotating
at precisely 180 revolutions per minute. You will walk the length of the
powerhouse ramp to a needle valve house, or enter a cool diversion tunnel to
view an enormous penstock. Ride elevators to inspection galleries inside the dam
itself. Investigate the abutment drains and fresh air vents on the downstream
face Your Hard Hat Tour will be an unforgettable trip through the 20th Century
technology, spiced with the details of a compelling period in American history
surrounding the construction of the dam. NOTE: No long Ticket Lines, Plus Price
Includes The DAM Admission! Hoover Dam is named for Herbert Hoover, the 31st
